The parish nurse understands health to be a dynamic process, which embodies the spiritual, psychological, physical, and social dimensions of the person. The role of the parish nurse includes:
Personal Health Counselor: make home, hosipital, and nursing home visits as needed; discuss health issues with individuals, listen, support and pray with them.
Health Educator: Seek to promote an understanding of the relationship between lifestyles, faith, and health. May arrange wellness classes, provide blood pressure screening and write articles for the church newsletter.
Wellness Facilitator: Assists in empowering the congregation to develop various health ministries such as support groups and visitation teams.
Referral Source: Acts as your liaison with community resources by providing information on home health care agencies, group homes, nursing homes, meals on wheels, durable medical equipment, etc.
